As PhD students and post-doctoral fellows know all too well, the academic market for tenure track positions is on the decline. Universities continue to admit graduate students, but with a declining job market, it’s time to begin talking about employment outside academe. The workshop begins that conversation.
Dr. Shari Golberg worked for the Ontario Women’s Directorate for 5 years before starting her graduate program. Upon completing her PhD at U of T’s Department for the Study of Religion, she pursued a life of public service in various Ontario ministries, where she brought her academic training to advanced policy debates that affect our public sphere. She now is Senior Policy Advisor at the Ontario Public Service’s Inclusive Diversity Office, an internal centre for excellence with expertise in research, data analysis, learning and program development on diversity and inclusion. As part of this role she, leads a learning strategy on equity, anti-racism, and accessibility issues for Ontario Government employees. Dr. Golberg will help lead a conversation about life after the PhD both inside and outside academe.
