Event Details

In my talk I describethe three-way relationship between water, land, and humans from medieval to premodern times in the city of Zabid, founded in 820 CE on the arid Red Sea coastal plain, and its agricultural hinterland. Archaeologicalremains and written sources provide the evidence for an examination of technical and managerial struggles, failures, and successes in water use and allocation.
