The Institute of Islamic Studies is proud to present the Islam in the (Post) Colony, the latest issue of Islam in the City. This special edition of Islam in the City was born out of a desire to understand Muslim identity, culture, and practice in the city through a postcolonial lens as taught by Professor Nada Moumtaz in a course in the Department for the Study of Religion.
Focusing on the settler-colonial context of Canada and North America, the articles describe and analyze the difficulties and radical possibilities of living Islam in this context. How have colonial practices and legacies shaped and informed the lives of Muslims who reside here? And how have Muslims reshaped Toronto?

The visual theme of the magazine revolves around a feeling of limbo—an existence between two realities. Maham Momin, the graphic designer of this magazine, and a recent graduate from the Ontario College of Art and Design, emulates just that through her seamless use of color, photography, and abstract imagery that perfectly compliment the tone and content of each article.
