Muslims in Canada Archives (MiCA)
Archives of Muslims in Canada: Environmental Scan
Published on October 30, 2019The IIS sponsors a research group called the Study of Islam and Muslims in Canada (SIMiC). Among SIMiC’s various projects, the IIS is launching MiCA, the Muslims in Canada Archive. This report provides an environmental scan of Canada’s archival landscape, showcasing the fundamental gaps in both archival records and archival practices that render Muslims virtually invisible in Canadian archives across the country.

Canadian Muslim Health Exceptionalism—Community Consultation

The report examines the demographic make-up of Canada’s Muslim communities. A product of an IIS hosted consultation between academic researchers and community organizations, this report provides large-data set analyses on a wide range of questions posed by community organizations.

Definition of charity and charitable purposes working group
Published on October 9, 2024The group examined the current regulatory approach to charitable purposes and activities to determine what, if anything, is missing. It examined the advantages and disadvantages of a statutory definition of “charity” in the Income Tax Act. The group’s recommendations emphasize the importance of reconciliation-focused policy reviews and consultations with Indigenous communities. Their suggestions aim to modernize charity law and regulation, making it more inclusive and equitable.
