“Minarets on the Horizon: Muslim Pioneers in Canada” Book Talk
The Muslims in Canada Archives (MiCA) will be hosting Murray Hogben on Zoom for a talk about his recently released book.
‘Minarets on the Horizon’ is a collection of stories about some of the earliest Muslim Canadians, and the Muslim community that has existed since. The talk will aim to cover topics such as the treatment of Muslim people from the earliest days to the present, the importance of recordkeeping in the Canadian Muslim communities, and how Hogben’s background shaped the writing of the book.
In conversation with MiCA’s archivist Moska Rokay, we will also aim to learn more about Mr. Hogben’s travels as he collected the oral histories of Canada’s pioneer Muslims and understand his perspectives on Islamophobia in Canada through time.
